Who Is My Family

MARK 3:20-35

“Who does Jesus say is his true family?” To give you a heads up, there are few unexpected turns this week. Jesus’ biological family doesn't make the cut (at least for now). Also, the religious leaders who were supposed to be closest to God miss the mark completely! Rather, Jesus looks to the crowds – especially those seated at his feet – and redefines family around himself: “For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and brother” (Mark 3:35).  

This claim is wonderful news! If you are in Christ, you will never be without a family of faith. In a world of family dysfunction, isolation, political division, tribalism, and ethnic strife – our shared allegiance to Christ is what makes us God’s family.
