Prepared to be Purified

Matthew 3:1-12

John the Baptist’s call to repentance was radical preparation. Repentance comes from the word metanoia means and means a complete change of mind and direction—a new worldview. For the privileged in John’s day, this meant turning away from symbols of worldly success, and turning toward the wilderness life—solitude, simplicity, and humble dependence. For us, it means recognizing that the King who reigns over heaven has come near and invites us to live differently.
